Expedition I — Sacred Forests
聖なる森 — Seinaru Mori
Mission: Investigate Japan’s ancient forests, shrine groves, and sacred woodlands.
Beyond the shrine gates and familiar paths, the forest becomes a place of uncertainty.
Sacred Forests explores beings rooted in Japan’s wooded landscapes, mountain paths, and spiritual boundaries, where folklore, nature, and belief overlap. These are not simply creatures hidden among the trees, but presences shaped by the places they inhabit: guardians, tricksters, messengers, and things less easily named.
The expedition begins at the threshold, where the known world starts to give way to something older.
Expedition X — Spirits of Death
死霊 — Shiryō
Mission: Investigate Japan’s restless dead, haunted places, and traditions surrounding death.
Death does not always mark the end of a presence.
Spirits of Death explores ghosts, revenants, and lingering souls found throughout Japanese folklore, where grief, violence, memory, and unfinished obligations can bind the dead to the living world. Some return seeking justice, others remain attached to a person or place, and some have become something far more dangerous.
The expedition begins where the boundary between the living and the dead grows thin.
