A routine survey of an Inari shrine prompts a reconsideration of the Archive’s own classification system, after conversations with shrine personnel reveal how easily divine fox messengers and supernatural kitsune can be incorrectly treated as the same phenomenon.
Local accounts of a kitsune no yomeiri disagree on what witnesses should expect to see, yet consistently place the supposed procession along the same forgotten route. Archive testimony and historical maps are compared to determine what the landscape may have preserved.
Following repeated reports of lights over rain-soaked fields, an Archive survey documents a series of unexplained nocturnal illuminations and examines their possible connection to kitsunebi traditions and the changing local landscape.
